Intro to having a website

The basic things you will need for a website are

  • A domain
  • A hosting provider
  • Content

Domain

A domain name can be simplified and thought of as your online phone number. Your domain name can be purchased from a Domain registrar for a yearly fee, usually around $10.00 per year.

Lets say your domain is SamsBusinessGroup.com

Your domain can end in many extensions, some of the most popular ones are .com, .net, .me, .org.

There are many domain name registrars to pick from, we have had a good experience with Namecheap and have used them for our domain purchases for the last few years.

A hosting provider.

A hosting provider is what makes your website work. You can consider it as the engine of your website that enables people to use and view it. If you have a small website with very low traffic you can use a smaller engine or hosting plan, and then increase as traffic to your site increases. Hostgator is a good choice for starting out.

Content

Content is the information that you want to show to your visitors. Content usually serves the purpose of promoting, educating, or sharing. This content is delivered by your website. There are many different systems, technologies, and languages that your website can be built on, but the goal is to engage your visitors and provide them with value.
